About the Role:

Syracuse Feedyard is seeking a dependable and experienced Feed Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our feed department. This position is a critical leadership role responsible for supervising feed crew members, managing feed delivery logistics, and maintaining equipment to ensure operational efficiency. This role requires a combination of organizational, mechanical, and people-management skills.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, schedule, and lead a team of 6–8 feed department employees
  • Ensure accurate and timely mixing and delivery of feed based on nutritionist recommendations
  • Monitor cattle feed intake, bunk conditions, and ration adherence
  • Maintain and update feed delivery records, inventory tracking, and daily reporting
  • Oversee routine maintenance and cleanliness of feed trucks and equipment:
    • Diagnose mechanical issues and coordinate with maintenance teams
    • Perform minor repairs and adjustments when needed
    • Implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime
  • Collaborate with the nutritionist and General Manager to ensure feed quality, efficiency, and safety
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the feed department team
  • Monitor equipment usage to ensure safe operation and compliance with company policies
  • Provide training and mentorship to new and existing team members
  • Assist with bunk management and snow/ice removal during adverse weather
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or related field (preferred), or equivalent work experience (3–5 years in feedyard operations or cattle production)
  • Experience operating feed trucks, hay wagons, or similar equipment preferred; willing to train motivated candidates to operate all necessary feedyard equipment safely.
  • Supervisory experience in a production agriculture setting, preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, strongly preferred
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience with equipment operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in outdoor, hands-on environments and all-weather conditions
  • Willingness to work alternating weekends
