Description:
Cactus Feedyard is now hiring for its Cowboy Crew. We are seeking two experienced individuals to assist with the daily operations of the Early Settlers growyard, a growyard managed by Cactus Feeders, as well as occasional work with up to three circles of grass cattle.

About the Position:
Cattle Health & Doctoring
- Ride pens daily to observe cattle, identify signs of illness, injury, or stress, and pull sick cattle for treatment
- Manage hospital pens and doctor cattle according to established animal health protocols
- Accurately diagnose and administer treatments, including injections, oral medications, and topical applications
- Enter all treatments, observations, and outcomes correctly into the cattle health computer system
- Ride grass and outside cattle as needed, including roping and doctoring cattle using low-stress handling techniques
- Communicate health concerns and trends with the Cactus Feeders Manager, pen riders, and other cattle teams
- Work closely with cattle crews and yard management to ensure smooth, efficient, and low-stress cattle flow
Inventory & Compliance
- Conduct medicine and commodity (primarily hay) inventory counts on the 15th and at the end of each month
- Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper storage of animal health supplies, medicines, and equipment
- Ensure all animal health activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements
Requirements:
- Ability to provide and maintain personal horses and necessary tack suitable for job-related riding duties (Required)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also managing responsibilities independently and meeting assigned deadlines
- Reliable transportation to and from the work location
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, physical examination, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable laws
- Personal dogs, including working dogs, are not permitted on company property during work hours
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare.
Pay and Benefits:
- Hourly compensation based on experience and skillset
- Full-time position with bi-weekly pay via direct deposit
- Bi-weekly horse allowance of $400 to support horse care and upkeep
- Permission to keep up to four horses on-site (three in pens and one in the horse pasture)
